Introduction:

THF Is an important organic synthetic raw material and solvent with excellent properties, especially suitable for dissolving PVC, polyvinylidene chloride, and butylaniline. It is widely used as solvent for surface coating, anticorrosive coating, printing ink, magnetic tape, and film coating, it can be used as reaction solvent to control the thickness and brightness of aluminum layer in electroplating aluminum bath. THF itself polycondensates (Cationic initiated ring-opening repolymerization) into polytetramethylene ether glycol (PTMEG) , also known as Oxolane polyether.

THF is a clear, low-viscosity liquid with an ether-like odor. At Room temperature, THF is completely miscible with water. The THF can easily become peroxide when stored. As a result, commercial THF often uses BHT, 2,6-bis-butyl-p-cresol, to prevent oxidation. In addition, THF can be stored in a sealed bottle in a dark place by sodium hydroxide. THF Is a fully hydrogenated analogue of aromaticity. Vapors can form explosives with air, react with acids, pose a fire hazard in the presence of strong oxidizing agents, and react with potassium hydroxide and sodium hydroxide, UNSTABILIZED oxolane can form explosive peroxide when exposed to air. The use of oxolane is an important raw material for organic synthesis and a solvent with excellent properties, especially suitable for dissolving PVC, polyvinylidene chloride and butylaniline, it is widely used as a solvent for surface coating, anti-corrosion coating, printing ink, magnetic tape and film coating, and as a reaction solvent.

THF itself polycondensates (Cationic initiated ring-opening repolymerization) into polytetramethylene ether glycol (PTMEG) , also known as Oxolane polyether. PTMEG with toluene diisocyanate (TDI) made wear-resistant, oil-resistant, low-temperature performance, high strength special rubber; with dimethyl Terephthalate and 1,4-Butanediol made of block polyether polyester elastic material. The polyurethane elastic fiber (SPANDEX fiber) , special rubber, and some special coating materials were prepared by PTMEG with molecular weight of 2000 and MDI. In organic synthesis, it is used in the production of Tetrahydrothiophene, 1,4 dichlorobutane, 2,3 dichlorotetrahydrofuran, pentanolactone, butyrolactone, and pyrrolidone. In the pharmaceutical industry, THF is used in the synthesis of Capecitabine, Rifamycin, progesterone, and some hormone drugs. THF is treated with hydrogen sulfide to produce Tetrahydrothiophenol, which can be used as an odor agent in fuel gas (identification additive). THF can also be used as a surface treatment agent for synthetic leather. THF is a good solvent in Grignard Reaction. And only THF can be used as a solvent in Grignard reaction for more stable vinyl halogenated hydrocarbons such as chlorobenzene.

Handling and Storage recommendations：

Should crystals form in a peroxidizable liquid, peroxidation may have occurred and the product should be considered extremely dangerous.
